December 2009 Quarterly

New This Quarter

The Wang: Erection Year: A Collection of Strips by Stan Yan
"What if Charlie Brown grew up?" is how Wade Busby of The Guide described Eugene Wang, the protagonist of Yan's graphic novel series, The Wang. "And what if Charlie Brown was Asian?" is the rhetorical question Yan dares to ask in this latest bound edition. The result is this attractive, square-bound collection -- a pu pu platter of inside jokes that give readers a flavor of what it is like to grow up as an Chinese-American in a white bread town like Denver, Colorado. In addition to the introduction of Dildo, Kristin's popular new pet wiener dog, story lines revolving around insider trading in the stock brokerage industry, ... and the US Presidential erection (ahem) election run of Eugene's college roomie and self-made motivational speaker, George, will leave readers full of laughter, and hungry for more an hour later.

ISBN/EAN13: 0975504185 / 9780975504185, 60 pg. b&w 8.25" x 6" book with color, square bound cover. Mature. $6.95 US. Shipping December 2009.

Squid Works Quarterly - Holiday 2008 Edition!

Holiday 2008 Quarterly News

New This Quarter

SubCulture: The TPB Written by Kevin Freeman, art by Stan Yan - Coming December 2008: SubCulture: The TPB! It collects the original four-issue comics mini-series, plus is packed with extras: A never-seen alternative cover to issue #2; new pinups by David Dwonch, Super Ugly, Danielle Corsetto, Alex Robinson, Lonnie Allen, and Ozzy Longoria; a section that locates and explains the literally hundreds of Easter eggs that are scattered throughout the book; preliminary sketches and concept drawings of Stan’s earliest work on the book; and the first 24 webstrips that continue the story.  All in all it’s 144 pages, in a handy 6X9 format. The book is on Page 210 of the October Previews, Diamond order code OCT08 3822. It costs $16.95. Ask your local comic book store to reserve your copy today. If you so desire, you can also preorder the book from us, and if you do so, shipping is FREE! And for just $5 more, you can get a signed edition with a signed, limited edition print.

The Navel Gazer Collection by Lonnie Allen - The popular, idiosyncratic, and philosophical Navel Gazer strips are collected into one oblong mini-comic. The antithesis of a Jack Chick tract, these strips try to examine the absurdities in life. Drawn in with an expressive and painterly style, Allen offers his unique take on many of the big questions in the game we call "life". Mature. 22 page, b&w, saddle-stitched mini (2.5" x 5.5"), $2.00 US.

We would also like to welcome a Ozzy Longoria to the Squid Works. With him comes many titles he illustrated including, Quantum: Rock of Ages #1 & 2 (Written by Phillip Clark. A mind-bending tale of alternate realities in which Nick Vargas finds himself giving up his life only to have it forever changed by an ancient and powerful relic, the "Quantum Silica.". Each issue: mature, 32 page b&w comic, color cover, $2.99 US.); The Saved (Apocalyptic visions written by R.T. Both. General, 24 page b&w comic, color cover, $2.99 US. Product ID: LONG-SAV01.) In addition, we’ve added many anthologies he’s contributed to our catalog, including IF – X #3, 5, and 6 from Hamtramck Idea Men.

Also, we’re happy to announce that T. Motley has contributed a story to JB Winter’s Izzy Challenge #5.

Finally, we’d like to announce the opening of A Better Way Merchandising Services by Tanya Higgins and Chris Salas.

More information and the complete catalog go to www.squidworks.com/offerings.html , and don’t forget to have your favorite comic retailer order from us on your behalf to save you shipping costs. Have them find out how at www.squidworks.com/dealer.html.

Awesome Kitty Kingdom Pronunciation Guide by Michael O'Keefe From Michael O'Keefe's own mouth: This story was prompted by feedback from my mother. Basically, my mother says to me, "Oh, I love your comics!" (Hey, she IS my mother after all, what else WOULD she say?) "BUT," she continued, "I don't know how to pronounce the names..." So mommers, this one's for you! I'm personally rather proud of the Kokopelli dance of the two cats Mew and Moonlight on page 6. (Incidentally, Mew and Moonlight are the names of my two cats--they are now living in the real Awesome Kitty Kingdom in the sky... miss you guys!) This is also the first time I've officially drawn the "9 cats who founded Awesome Kitty Kingdom" on page 12. Fun, fun, fun! (G - for everyone!)

Zombicatures Not really a webcomic, but check out the latest periodically-updated celebrity and non-celebrity zombie caricature by the zombification studio made up of Stan Yan, Brendan Wenberg, and Ethan Wenberg. Prints, originals and commissions available!

Craig Gassen's webcomics by Craig Gassen - Includes updating and one-shots including, Educating Hector (educational editorials), Jude fumettis (photo docudramas created about Craig and Tanya's little boy), Edge St. Cafe (Gothic horror vignettes) and Sprouts (24-Hour Comic from 2006). (PG-13 - some strips contain violence, partial nudity, and gothic horror)
